About Kirsten
I grew up in the Boston area in a very family-centered community. I was always drawn to younger children and began doing child care at a very young age. I moved on to work as a teacher's assistant, children's dance teacher and nanny. I moved to Atlanta in 2007 and, around that same time, got the call to work in the realm of birth- literally! My best friend called one day to tell me that she had discovered my future vocation; doula work. Without any sense of what I was embarking on, I began looking into birth and postpartum work and got sucked in! I felt a sense of calling that I had never believed possible and have not looked back since! I have since dedicated years of self-study, exploration and class time to this calling and am grateful to still be learning and growing more every day.
I began my studies by reading any and everything I could get my hands on. I participated in two childbirth education classes (including the Bradley Method) and completed my DONA birth doula training all in the same year! I continued to work as a full time nanny while beginning postpartum work with families, including families with twins. While I value all of the education I have received through books and programs, it is always the families themselves that teaches me the most.
I am now happy to be living in Asheville, North Carolina while I attend a holistic midwifery program through The Matrona, a well respected, Asheville-grown midwifery program. I am actively involved with the Asheville Holistic Birth Collective, where I volunteer my time as a postpartum care coordinator. I am the co-director of the Our Bodies Self-Care Education Clinic, which is open every other Monday at the Asheville Holistic Birth Collective house in West Asheville. I am dedicated to building community and serving families in my new home!
